The SEA Spirit Foundation

About the Foundation

The SEA Spirit Foundation is a nonprofit corporation formed under the DC Nonprofit Act for charitable and educational purposes, within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) of 1986, and an approved non-profit organization under the IRC.

The Need

The 10 countries of ASEAN, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, contain nearly 650 million people in one of the world’s most at risk regions for natural disasters.

Potential Ports of Call

The SEA Spirit Foundation hospital ship will be a regional asset.  Our intent is to spend an academic year berthed in an ASEAN port providing medical education services and then deploying for several weeks throughout the region conducting medical educational outreach and disaster preparedness training. Upon conclusion the cycle would begin again in yet another ASEAN port. The ship will be ready at any time to respond to regional disasters, taking full advantage of being homeported in the region with local expertise aboard. Berthing locations will be selected for their balance among ship accessibility, promotion of the mission, and security. Candidate locations sufficient to accommodate docking the SEA Spirit ship are presented here.
